Good Mornings

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

Last week I was to start my blog- according to who? of course me!!! :) Anyway I am here now saying good morning to those who read it here in US CST. It is a beautiful morning. A tiny bit sad because my 8 yr old who was stung by a wasp still has a big swelling on her leg and foot, and unable to wear her shoes. My little one is now busy using a dry erase to color her leg and some post-its that she has taken from my office drawer. My plans are to go and get some order into my vegetable garden and to pick some okra before they get too mature to eat! Read somewhere that you can make paper but people who know the number of things I intend to do would say “yah right, paper from okra!!!”

I will now be trying to update my blog everyday whenever I feel like- but the goal is to try once daily at least!
Bye bye for now and have a good day!

Freezing ridge gourd/beerakai/pirkanga

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

If you are freezing ridge gourd/peerkanga/beerakai, either blanch or cook it fully before you do so. My sister-in-law had told me that when she froze it and used it later it wasn’t good, so I experimented and found out that what she had said was right, it matures in the freezer too.
Refer to the following as a guide.

On religion

Monday, April 27th, 2009

A definition of religion [out of the web] : a strong belief in a supernatural power or powers that control human destiny. I wonder why people need ‘religion’ to lead a good life. In the 21st century at least I think there should be a change in our thinking. We cannot be stuck with beliefs to progress.

My review about Slumdog millionaire

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

We saw this movie a couple of weeks ago. It seemed like one of the countless Hindi movie stories. Rags to riches basically. The music too wasn’t anything very different from what AR Rahman usually comes up with. There have been movies with better music by him. Just wondered why it won so many Oscars that day. Of course I haven’t watched the other movies that were nominated so cannot say!
On another note, wonder why he converted to Islam from Hinduism. Also wonder why so many references have to be made to God by him. In this century wish people were more realistic.

Show of religion

http://friendlyatheist.com/2009/01/08/tim-tebows-eyes-say-john-316/

This is almost exactly how I felt yesterday when I happened to watch the end of the game [not becaues of a love of it, but because my husband happened to catch the end of the game]

This line in particular made me ROFL “… I have to wonder if his coaches or NCAA officials would allow him to have “There Is” “No God” written on his eye black below his right and left eyes…”

I am sure there would have been an uproar if he had written the above! what he did yesterday will just blow away into smithereens into the atmosphere. I don’t think I bother too, but when people exhibit such personal beliefs of their faith, its going to get you thinking [atleast at that moment ] about it and create a disgust or praise [in some or many I think] in your mind about him. Its stupid.

Mornings

Friday, January 9th, 2009

There are counteless times I think of writing a blog as soon as I can get to it, but here I am writing up another one after 3 months!!! This one is about how mornings are to me. I usually feel that there is no need of the sun to keep my spirits up, but both yesterday and today [and ofcourse there have been many other times] with the sun shining outside it seems so nice. Its like inviting you to get going. I ofcourse talk with my own tasks in mind. There is something about the sun that raises everybody’s spirits up. To me, in the winter time, I feel its a whole new different feeling. I cannot really express how I feel, its like a burst of energy, its like a flashing of  all the things I need to do:) . The chances of me really doing what I need to are very less though, I am going to be stuck up in this other world of internetting and soon be rushing off to attend to my about to be one year old. She ofcourse is sleeping right now. Its very pretty outside, reminds me of the Olympic mountains, the trees, ocean views there. There was something very calming about the atmosphere there. I very often imagine [imagination doesn't end when you have grown up] that I may have been an native Indian roaming about on horses, tending to buffaloes somewhere in the grand outdoors several centuries ago. Imagination can take you anywhere. But again I then think of the practical things and then come right back to where I am and am happy to be there!

About internet and stuff

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

About 10 years ago when I was working in India, we used to get email about 3 times a day, we could hear the computer connect and we all would wait to see whose inbox would fill up. And then, we used to have about an hour of internet time every week. That was something everyone used to look forward to. I managed to chat with my brother who was then studying in UIUC. It was on short cool! At that time I thought , this is great! I can get in touch and keep in touch with everyone. To cut it short I came to the US, I found it amazing that I could look up anything, get directions to any place, get bus routes , times etc. It was wonderful. Then again the scene a few years ago, lots of emailing and as far as I remember, people I used to email used to email back, so it was like a give and take and was good. There was a family emailing list setup and it seemed all enthusiastic to write current news and things going on in our lives, seemed like oh, we are so much in contact, this is good. Well, of late [maybe more than a year], people seem to have lost interest in keeping in touch I guess, the world definitely has changed, importance to things have shifted. Not replying or not responding to emails doesn’t seem like a big thing anymore. But I just wonder, it isn’t that no one logs in or it isn’t that an average person doesn’t spend atleast half an hour on the computer everyday, but why has the enthusiasm that seemed to be there about 10 years ago declined? Personally mine hasn’t faded I still feel as excited as I was before about being ‘connected’ to the world through the internet. Maybe it is human tendency to be that way? Maybe humans really don’t yearn to be too close to friends or relatives? I can remember my grandfather sending inland letters by post and we used to get one every month I think, I guess those were days people were more in contact. I don’t believe in phones as much as I do in emails. I still find it more convenient, with phones you never know what every person is upto, its like an interruption of what you are doing when someone calls, with emails you can carry on your daily life and set away a chunk of your time to keep in touch or get up to date.

Things in the world change in so many ways, yet some things remain the same and one of them is human behaviour.
